Is the Bible Relevant Today

Never before has humanity questioned the Bible’s relevance more than today.  We can look back over the past few years and see the trend growing toward a more assertive questioning and diminishment of its role.  It is not unusual to hear it said that the Bible is simply a book on the history and customs of Ancient times.  Some even speak of it as simply a composition of fables.

What is being missed by those that speak so, is that the Bible is God’s means to share His Will.  While those seeking grander ways to learn, God simply desires us to study (1 Timothy 2:15) it to understand His desires.  That makes it a very important book and most important for those that want to please Him. It should not be treated in this manner. God has always communicated His Laws to humanity. Since God is the beginning and source of all religious and spiritual authority, He nor His Word is subject to anyone except Himself.  His authority is supreme over all forms and other sources that challenge Him.  Satan himself is subject to Him, though he fights continually to surpress others.

While many contributed to its content, none did so out of their own intent. The Holy Spirit inspired each to write as God expected and demanded (Hebrews 3:7-11; 1 Peter 1:10-12). The Holy Spirit came to “guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come,” John 16:13. His actions in directing those that wrote, ensured that “no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation,…, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit," 2 Peter 1:21

Paul wrote of the Word’s importance, in Ephesians 3:4.  There he explains that through it we can understand his “knowledge in the mystery of Christ.”   In 1 Timothy 3: 14-15, Paul provided the explanation of why he wrote.  His intention was that we may know how to conduct ourselves “in the house of God….” John wrote so that we “would not sin,” 1 John 2:1-3.  When God gave His Son recognition, it came along with instructions that we should “Hear Him,” Matthew 17:5.  Their words are available today because of God’s providence and educated men’s efforts.  Without both, we could not understand their knowledge.  John, John 20:30-31, indicates that the book we have is only a sampling of the events and occurrences which Christ did on earth.  Even so, it is sufficient to assist us to “believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.”  Through it we have “given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,” 2 Peter 1:3-4

Is the Bible relevant today?  Absolutely, because through it we have God’s will and His expectations.  It contains the words by which we will be judged and it reveals the Apostles’ understanding of God’s Will.  These are the reasons the Bible is still relevant today.
