DRAW NEAR TO GOD AND HE WILL DRAW YOU TO HIMJohn 6:44-45 states that the Father draws people to Christ through His Word. In reading God’s Word, we realize the drawing power contained within the scriptures. God speaks of love, peace, mercy, and everlasting life, while men of this world speak of money, power, hate, and selfishness. God has the power to cleanse one’s sins and create a humble, obedient servant. In Psalm 30, David speaks of God’s life-giving care and help He provided during David’s highs and lows in life. Jesus stated that He had the water springing up to everlasting life, John 4:14. We can know and be assured that God will help us during this life and provide eternal rest for our soul after this life. To be able to understand God’s drawing power we must hear God’s Word. According to Acts 2:37, those that heard Peter speak God’s Words were pierced to the heart. God expects those that hear His word to understand their position before Him and to break the hardened shell around their hearts to seek corrective action. According to Acts 8:26-39, the Ethopian eunuch was returning from worshipping God when Philip preached Jesus unto him. The Ethopian eunuch realized where he stood before God and sought corrective action in requesting Philip to take him down into the water to baptize him. We are able to draw near to God today, because we have a savior who was willing to die as a sacrificial lamb for our sins. John 12:32-33 states that Jesus will draw to Him all men when He is lifted up. Verse 33 goes on to explain that Jesus will be lifted up from the earth on the cross. All of this would not be possible if it was not for the grace of God to send His only begotten Son to save the world, John 3:16. Jesus wants all men to draw near or come to know Him by following His commandments. In fact we can know that we are known by Him if we keep His commandments, 1 John 2:3. We are instructed to not only keep a commandment, a couple of commandments, the "easy" commandments, or our chosen commandments, but to keep all of His commandments. When we keep His commandments, we will put on the characteristics of the One we are drawn to, namely God, 2 Peter1:6-11. We will acquire diligence, moral excellence, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness, and love. When we take on and increase in these qualities we will know and be assured that we are drawn to our Savior and able to enter into our eternal kingdom. In conclusion, God has invited those that seek after love, peace, and mercy, to join Him in an eternal home in heaven. He has raised up a sacrificial lamb to cleanse us of our sins. We must listen to His Word and respond to not only one commandment but all commandments. When we have put on the qualities of the One we are drawn to, our place in the kingdom will be abundantly secured. |
