Men Need More Than Bread To Live!

"Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God" (Matthew 4:4). This was the answer to the tempter that Jesus gave, declaring that "It is written" as in Deuteronomy 8:3

Jesus had fasted forty days and nights in the wilderness before the devil came and tempted Him. He was hungry when the tempter taunted Him with the words "If thou be the Son of God, command these stones be made bread" (Matthew 3:1-3).

For example Jesus explained to some of those five thousand he had fed with five barley loaves and two small fishes, that they should come to Him for the bread of heaven and the water of life to nourish their souls and quicken their spirits " (John 6:27, John 7:37

Their motive for finding and following Him was apparent as he reproved them by saying, "Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled. Our Lord admonished them, "Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life" (John 6:26-27).

"Jesus said unto them, 'I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst'" (John 6:35). In the last day of the feast of tabernacles "Jesus stood and cried, saying, 'If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink'" (John 7:2, John 7:37).

Now we know by whom we live! "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. . . .the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth" (John 1:1, 14). Indeed! " Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God" (Luke 4:4). Your health diet or your diet for "reducing" may be important, but living by the "word of God" is eternally valuable!
